PRESIDENTS REPORT FOR MWKC '10 -'11
Firstly, thank you to all our members for their contributions during the year. The organising of and the participation in our club activities is of the utmost importance to our Club’s success.
Your willingness to participate in our annual events helps maintain your club’s standing in our local kayaking communities.
I offer my sincere Thank You.
Thank you to Brett Greenwood for taking over the chair at our Club Committee Meetings since my resignation and in particular his preparation of our AGM.
Also a special thanks to Peter Metcalfe who volunteered to be our caretaker treasurer, a very calm and constructive member.
As is our tradition we note the success of members who have qualified to participate in International and in some cases as preparation for Olympic selection this year, or have already competed in the past year (see racing page)
Other Highlights at the Club during the year.
- ‘The Vajda Cup’ last October, (thank you Mario).
96 competitors, an exact 200m racing course.
35 Volunteer helpers. The Mayor as a presenter and prizemoney to boot.
NSW’s best paddlers, perfect weather, a few disgruntled competitors, (who did not attend the briefing) but we said sorry and gave them back their entry fees. Pretty good all round really.
- The Christmas Party. Perfectly organised and run as usual, all the appropriate awards handed out. The 2 most memorable moments for me were the attendance of so many youngsters at the front and that someone else besides me, won the golden flipper award. Thank God, Stuart has remained a member this year.
- The introduction of the ‘minisonics’ for training and racing for the 8-14yr olds. It was working so well when Denny was here, but unfortunately he had to return to Hungary.
- Divisional Race - PaddleNSW - Narrabeen, perfect weather, 194 paddlers and the largest number of competitors so far. A great fundraiser, ah yes, if my memory serves me well, a rather eventful K4 race.
As well, we allowed access to various kayaking bodies to run courses in, sea kayaking by PaddleNSW and coaching clinics by Chantal Minchin.
M.W.K.C. won the Marathon Series for the 6th time in the last 8 years. Well Done Marathoners. This year, at this point at least, we are coming 3rd, time to get cracking folks.
Our Sunday Races are still great fun and have attracted slightly higher numbers than last year. Graham is getting on top of the race Secretaries job and always conducts himself in a seriously good humoured way. Well done mate.
Thanks to my friends who have assisted me on the Committee the past 8 years and I look forward to continuing as a proud member for many years to come.
Thank you
Lawrie Kenyon
On behalf of your Committee
