MWKC news

Manly Warringah Kayak Club has been established since 1983 at Narrabeen Lake. The club has grown from humble beginnings, when it supported its first Olympian member, Barry Kelly. Nowadays MWKC boasts a recently completed two story clubhouse and boat storage facility with 240 members. MWKC, though it has grown incredibly over nearly three decades, still has a true sense of belonging and community for it’s members and their families who all love the sport of kayaking.
The club offers something for everyone from the age of about 10 thru to 90+! Club races are held on a weekly basis and everyone is welcome to compete (including non members). These races are sometimes themed (e.g. 12km Championships, King of the Mountain and Handicap races) and are suitable for all paddlers from the relative novice to the experienced athlete. The weekly club races are held on Sundays at 8.00 am all year round, starting from the eastern end of Narrabeen Lake at the foreshore in front of the clubhouse, and they are a great way to meet likeminded paddlers and get in some medium distance training in a fun and friendly atmosphere. The club races are all timed and results are posted on the website weekly.
In addition to hosting the weekly club races MWKC regularly hosts State sprint and Marathon events both at Narrabeen Lake and occasionally SIRC at Penrith. The club offers coaching at all levels from the complete novice to elite international level. MWKC is also pleased to support the NTID Sydney Manly Warringah Senior Program which is coached by one of the club’s own member’s, Gavin James, who was selected for this position and is supported by AIS, AC, NSWIS and the ASC. After Guy Wilding (Australian Coach of the Year 2009) recently departed for the US, Tim Jacobs was appointed as AC/NSWIS Scholarship Coach for the Sydney Northside Squad which is also affiliated with Manly Warringah Kayak Club and trains out of Narrabeen. This year MWKC is very pleased to support several of its members who have qualified at a top national level to travel overseas to compete in both sprint and marathon events at an elite international level later this year!
MWKC is led by the Club President, Lawrie Kenyon, and supported by a Committee which meets on a monthly basis. Each year an AGM is held and all club members are invited to come along and get involved in the future of this great club.
